Foster Pet Parent

Pets are often overlooked victims of domestic violence, and for many survivors, the safety and well-being of their beloved animals can be a major barrier to leaving an abusive situation. DVSC’s Foster Pet Parent Program helps remove that barrier by connecting survivors with compassionate volunteers who can provide a safe, temporary home for their pets while they stay in shelter. By ensuring that pets are cared for, the program gives survivors greater peace of mind and the opportunity to seek safety without having to leave their furry family members behind.

Volunteers can choose the types of animals they are comfortable fostering and are provided with important information about each pet’s medical condition, vaccination status, and other care needs before making a commitment. Through this program, foster pet parents offer more than temporary shelter for an animal — they provide reassurance, compassion, and the invaluable gift of helping keep families together until survivors and their pets can be reunited.
